SÕBA
Brand Story
SÕBA products show how fascinatingly history can be told through archaeological finds.
The brand’s name is inspired by the sõba — a universal and practical outer garment worn in ancient Estonia. It provided warmth and protection and was an integral part of daily life. The photo shows a reconstruction of a 13th-century sõba from Siksälä (Ave Matsin, Sandra Urvak).
Just as the sõba once reflected the wearer’s individuality, the fingerprint at the heart of our logo represents each person’s unique touch and timeless connection to the act of creation. This symbolic detail refers directly to traces found on ancient pottery, where the fingerprints of prehistoric artisans can still be seen — a lasting bond between maker and made.

SÕBA
Principles
The main distinction of SÕBA lies in the scientific foundation of its pieces. Each collection is accompanied by a story of origin — researched and written by us — including sources and further reading for those who wish to explore the background in more depth.
At the heart of this project is Estonia’s cultural heritage. Yet the detailed background stories are also a tribute to the researchers who have worked with these artefacts — those who have discovered, contextualized, preserved, and reconstructed them.
Respect for the sources also shapes SÕBA’s visual language. The designs are intentionally understated, meant for everyday wear and use. The goal is to create high-quality, lasting objects that become a meaningful part of people’s lives and remain in use for years to come.
